If you long for solitude, consider a backcountry trip in the Wallowas or Blue Mountains come late August & September. September still finds warm temps in the high country and with kids back in school, you're likely to have trails to yourself in Eastern Oregon (especially if you go mid week). We find Sept to mid-October to be relatively stable weather-wise, but remember to pack warm clothes for cold nights. While you won't have as many family groups with school back in session, you may run into hunters- it's always a good idea to stay on trail and dress brightly. Longer nights mean easier star gazing- if you haven't been catching the amazing meteor showers this month, don't fret! It's not too late. As summer slows, star gazing excels! With less daylight you don't have to stay up as late to catch the show. This year has been phenomenal- every night of a tour has been a show! Did you know that Eastern Oregon has some of the darkest skies in the world? No fancy equipment needed. With so little light pollution in EO, you can see up to 4000 stars with the naked eye. Want to star gaze in comfort? Contact us about booking one of our backcountry or drive-to "glamps," guided or unguided, for amazing star gazing in secret remote locations.
Speaking of Star Gazing! SE Oregon is where the action really is at. Our last group tour of the season takes place in the Owyhee Canyonlands of SE Oregon from Oct 3-8. Join us for 6 days of star gazing, paddling, and amazing camping on the wild Owyhee River. The best part, we're selling the trip at a reduced rate to gather feedback from guests! Lastly, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the amazing food that comes with fall! If you've joined Go Wild on a tour, you know we're all about eating good food outside. Well, fall brings such a host of fun culinary opportunities! Experiment with fruit! From grilled apples and peaches on the campfire to pickled bourbon cherries- late summer brings a bounty of fruit with which you can spruce up your camp meals. Harvest season! A great family outing no matter where in Oregon you live- get a little dirty and go harvest some fruit! Whether you love wine or not, helping with a grape harvest is a fun and scrumptious insight into Oregon wine industry. But you don't need to get official about it. No matter where you live, fall brings the opportunity to head out and glean! Taking a bike ride around town to find trees loaded with fruit can be a great family activity to meet neighbors and reduce food waste! Just make sure to ask the landowner before you start picking! Have a small group special event coming up? Have Go Wild cater your outdoor party!
