Come to stargaze,

A Hike Through Time

a 4-day geology trek through Oregon's Wallowa Mountains

Led by Go Wild and professional geologist and author, Bob Carson, Ph.D., A Hike Through Time is an all-inclusive backpacking trek through Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness. Over the course of 4 days in the backcountry, learn about the geological forces that shaped some of Oregon's oldest mountains, I.D. rocks found along the trail, and enjoy evening fireside geology discussions over camp cocktails and gourmet cast-iron cooking.

ADVENTURE ITINERARY

Thursday

Bedrock Geology of the Wallowa Mountains

After introductions, we set out for the trailhead and begin our 4.5 mile hike up the dramatic Main Eagle drainage of the scenic Eagle Cap Wilderness. This is where you'll really get to know your guides and fellow geology enthusiasts. Enjoy a gourmet charcuterie lunch hosted by your guides/chefs and take multiple stops along the way for photo-ops and on-the-trail impromptu geology and ecology lessons.

Over cocktails and a locally-sourced dinner, end the evening with a themed discussion that takes you thru 1.4 billion years of NW history.

Friday

Ice Ages and Glaciations

After coffee and a cast-iron breakfast, grab your hand lens and day pack for a day full of exploration to some prime examples of Wallowa geology. Don't forget your swimsuit! Glacier carved alpine lakes await. Ask Bob questions on the trail and gather specimens for identification around the campfire.

Your themed discussion of the evening dives into ice ages and glaciation, shedding further light on many of the landforms witnessed throughout the day.

Saturday

Stump the Geologist

You've settled into the wilderness and taken care of by our guides, get ready for another day in nature's classroom.

Today takes you past more lakes to an other-worldly view of the entire valley showcasing evidence of some seriously fierce geology. In the evening, play everyone's favorite campfire game- Stump The Geologist! Who has questions!?

Throughout the trip there will be opportunities for fly fishing, swimming in alpine lakes, rock collecting, kicking back, and many more activities when your brain needs a break.

Sunday

Out of the Woods

Once out of the wilderness, share your best photos and experiences from the weekend with your fellow adventures over glasses of wine at our local winery for a trip ending party!
