Come to stargaze,

come to fish, come for the west's wildest mountains

Photography in the Wild

a digital photography backcountry workshop

Hosted by Go Wild and professional nature photographer, Clay Berthelsen, Photography in the Wild is an all-inclusive weekend of photographic exploration in the wilds of Eastern Oregon. From Friday through Sunday, backpack into Oregon's ruggedly scenic Hells Canyon for three jam-packed days practicing nature-specific photography skills in the backcountry. Subject matter includes but is not limited to: astro, wildlife, macro, landscape, composition, and editing.

ADVENTURE ITINERARY

Friday

After brief introductions, we set out for the trailhead and begin our 4.5 mile hike into the rugged and scenic Hells Canyon- N. America's deepest gorge. This is where you'll really get to know your guides and fellow photography lovers. Enjoy a gourmet charcuterie lunch hosted by your guides/chefs and take multiple stops along the way for photo-ops and on-the-trail impromptu photography lessons.

End the evening with a themed and interactive photography talk over cocktails and a locally-sourced dinner.

Saturday

After coffee and a cast-iron breakfast, grab your camera, tripod, and day pack for a day full of exploration and photo taking. Clay will lead numerous lessons throughout the day, all against the backdrop of Oregon's oldest mountains.

There will be opportunities for all kinds of activities today if your finger gets tired of clicking.

Tonight's evening session focuses on astro-photography, so prepare to stay up with the stars.

Sunday

Sunday starts slightly later due to the astro-lesson, but don't expect to sleep in. Today, we hike out of the wilderness but not before a morning session and plenty of photo breaks on the way back to the cars.

Once out of the wilderness, share your best photos from the weekend with your fellow adventures over glasses of wine at our local winery for a trip ending party!

Activity Level:

Photography weekends inevitably include a fair amount of walking and hiking with a backpack, sometime on rough terrain and up hills. We don't want to turn anyone away, so if you have concerns, please give us a call and we'll be happy to talk through options.
