Get Dirty. Give Back.
Trail Work Stewardship Vacations |
Eastern Oregon, USA
We bring the P A R T Y to work party. A Volunteer Vacation is a chance to sweat for your forest, make new friends, and kick back (cocktail in hand) under big Eastern Oregon skies. Experience the glamour of a Go Wild trip without the price tag. There is a growing disparity between the use our trails see and the funding that goes to maintaining them.
Together, we can fix this.
June 17-19, Go Wild partners with Wallowa Mountain Hells Canyon Trail Association to bring you a trip that asks you to lend a hand and treat yourself while doing it. Our trail of choice for 2022 is in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area (America's deepest gorge) and is also part of the Blue Mountain Trail, a 530 mile route in Eastern Oregon.
What to Expect:
This is what we'd call a hybrid frontcountry / backcountry adventure. Whether you drive yourself or take the complimentary transportation from Baker City, arrive to a deluxe camp set up at the trailhead. We'll depart from there for daily trail work outings into the wild.
At camp, everything is set up to maximize your time and leisure off the trail. This is an all-inclusive trip. Enjoy gourmet camp fire cooked meals, sleep on cots in tents, sip on hand crafted cocktails; just bring your boots and a good set of gloves.
Do it for your Soul
Do it for the Forest
Disconnect from your daily grind, work that body, feel immensely rewarded.
Build a Legacy
Help improve trails within the Wallowa-Whitman NF and bring outdoor adventure to others for years to come.
Connect with Friends & Nature
We're serious when we say, "vacation." Work and play alongside other do-gooders in the beautiful Oregon backcountry

2022 Dates & Details
Western Rim Trail
Miles / Gain:
~3ish miles / day
A note on difficulty:
This is indeed a work trip, but like we said before, we prefer work PARTY. The afternoon of Day 1 and a good portion of Day 2 will be spent on the trial clearing down logs and brush. Expect half of your time to be spent leisurely- hanging, relaxing, and enjoying your surroundings. Contact us with hesitations.
What to expect, work-wise:
Expect to carry a small folding hand saw and trade off carrying with another person one large tool (shovel, Pulaski, or similar) while on the trail. Trail work will consist of:
- Cutting out small trees in trail (6"-15")
- Using saws or loppers to cut out nearby seedlings
- Using shovels or Pulaskis to clean out water bars/dips
- Using shovels or Pulaskis to re-establish tread
- Using loppers to cut back brushy plants
- Removing rocks from trail

Meet at our favorite brewpub in Baker City, Oregon for an evening "meet & greet" to talk logistics and get to know each other over local beverages. Contact us for discounts at local hotels.
Depart Baker City at 8AM for 2.5 hour drive to the Western Rim trailhead off the 39 Road above Hells Canyon. If you're 're planning on driving your own rig, contact us for directions. After a pre-departure safety talk and how-to with the tools, head out with the trail crew for an afternoon of work before returning to camp for cocktail hour and camp fire dinner.
Now it's time to get your hands dirty. Day 2 is our main day of trail work. But, that's not before a hearty breakfast and bottomless coffee.
After a send off-breakfast and camp clean up, join the crew for a hosted afternoon after-party where we'll exchange photos, memories, and go out in style.
